Quick verdict
SOUNDBOKS builds battery-powered party speakers that are seriously loud and nearly indestructible. The Soundboks 4 is the flagship: RTINGS called it exceptionally loud (score 7.2, October 2026) and measured 32.5 hours of battery life. It has two XLR/TRS inputs for mics or instruments, links up to 5 speakers, and uses a swappable LiFePO4 battery shared across the whole lineup. The newer Mix ($799) replaced the discontinued Go and earned 8/10 from WIRED, which dropped one off a patio without harm.
The honest part: the Soundboks 4 now costs $1,199 (it was $999). Its 126 dB claim is a peak figure; Outeraudio measured 111.2 dB at 1 meter, and WIRED measured the Mix at 111 dB versus 121 dB claimed. There’s no charger in the box ($69 extra), the charger can’t run the speaker as a plug-in power supply, it plays in mono over basic Bluetooth, and battery wear isn’t covered by the warranty.
Our picks: Soundboks 4 if you need the loudest, most connectable rig. Mix for most parties. Rider ($599) if you want the smallest and toughest, without speaker linking.
Pros

- ✗ Mono sound, older Bluetooth (5.0 / 4.2), SBC only
- ✗ Battery wear excluded from warranty; battery failures a recurring complaint
- ✗ Trustpilot 3.9 (3,206 reviews) with unanswered negative reviews
Which SOUNDBOKS should you buy?
| Model | Price (2026-11-01) | Claimed max | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soundboks Rider | $599 | n/a | Smallest, IP66; no TeamUp linking; launched September 2026 |
| Soundboks Mix | $799 | 121 dB | WIRED 8/10, RTINGS 7.6; WIRED measured 111 dB |
| Soundboks 4 | $1,199 | 126 dB | RTINGS 7.2; Outeraudio measured 111.2 dB; Pro Panel inputs |
| Soundboks Go | Discontinued | n/a | Only refurbished listings remain |
Prices from soundboks.com on November 1, 2026. Tom’s Guide still quoted the Soundboks 4 at $999 in June 2026; we couldn’t find why it rose. Refurbished units are sometimes listed for less.
How loud is SOUNDBOKS, really?
| Model | Claimed | Measured | Who measured |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soundboks 4 | 126 dB | 111.2 dB | Outeraudio |
| Mix | 121 dB | 111 dB | WIRED |
SOUNDBOKS’ numbers are peak claims. Measured at 1 meter, it still plays very loud, which is why RTINGS calls the Soundboks 4 exceptionally loud, but expect roughly 10 to 15 dB less than the box says. Every model plays in mono.
Battery, charging and the plug-in catch
- Swappable battery: one LiFePO4 battery works in the Soundboks 4, Mix and Rider. A spare costs $199, so you can swap mid-party.
- No charger included: The Charger costs $69 and isn’t in the box on any model.
- Not a plug-in speaker: SOUNDBOKS’ own help center says “the charger is NOT a power supply,” and the speaker can shut off around volume 6 to 11 if you run it on the charger alone. Keep a charged battery in it.
- Battery life: RTINGS measured 32.5 hours on the Soundboks 4.
Warranty, returns and shipping
- Warranty (US): 2 years, plus 1 more year when you register in the app. “Normal wear and tear on parts like batteries” isn’t covered, and units from unauthorized resellers aren’t covered at all. (WIRED’s “five-year warranty” mention doesn’t apply to the US.)
- Returns: 45 days on speakers with a prepaid return label; 30 days on other products. The refund policy page doesn’t list the Rider in its 45-day list, so confirm before buying.
- Shipping: free on speakers, usually shipped in 1 to 2 business days; Hawaii and Alaska cost $100.
Company, support and safety
SOUNDBOKS started in Copenhagen in 2015 after a Kickstarter campaign and has raised roughly $20 to $23 million. Trustpilot shows 3.9 from 3,206 reviews, and the page notes the company hasn’t replied to negative reviews; complaints focus on slow email support, shipping delays and failed batteries. In 2022, SOUNDBOKS recalled about 6,700 Gen 3 lithium-ion batteries over fire hazard (no incidents reported). We found no recalls for the current models and no BBB profile.
SOUNDBOKS vs JBL PartyBox, Bose and Sony
| Speaker | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Soundboks Mix | $799 | Rugged, swappable battery, links 5 |
| Soundboks 4 | $1,199 | Loudest SOUNDBOKS, XLR inputs |
| JBL PartyBox Stage 320 | about $499.95 | Light show; price from search snapshot |

| Bose S1 Pro+ | $699 | Portable PA, confirmed on bose.com |
| Sony ULT Tower 10 | about $1,199 | Price from launch coverage |
JBL and Sony prices are from search snapshots and launch coverage because their sites blocked our live check, so confirm before buying. JBL’s PartyBox line adds light shows for less money; SOUNDBOKS wins on toughness, swappable batteries and multi-speaker linking.

- Skip it if: you want stereo sound, plug-in use without batteries, the newest Bluetooth codecs, or the most speaker for your money (look at JBL PartyBox).
