How we compared: this site runs on Hostinger, so that pick includes our own experience (our Hostinger review). The other hosts are research-based: we read each host’s own pricing, renewal and refund pages, independent uptime tests and complaint records. Prices were checked November 1, 2026, during Black Friday sales, so they may change; every fact links to its source. How we review · Affiliate disclosure: we may earn a commission from some links, at no extra cost to you. That never changes the order: the table is sorted by price.
Quick answer: the cheapest web hosting by situation
- Cheapest over the long run: Namecheap Stellar. $2.28/mo on a yearly plan ($1.88/mo on two years) after a 30-day free trial, and it renews at $55.88 a year (about $4.66/mo), the lowest renewal we found. Catches: 3 websites, backups aren’t guaranteed, and a D- from the BBB.
- Cheapest with no long contract: InterServer. $2.50 for the first month, then $7/mo, billed monthly if you want. Catches: no uptime guarantee in its terms, and a domain costs $7.99.
- Cheapest for WordPress (our pick): Hostinger. $2.49/mo, but only if you prepay 48 months ($119.52); it renews at $10.99/mo. We run this site on its Unlimited plan ($3.49/mo intro), which adds daily backups.
- Cheapest first year: IONOS Web Hosting Plus. $1/mo for year one, then $14/mo, and its refund covers only the first billing cycle.
- Best reputation on a budget: DreamHost. $2.89/mo for the first year, daily backups and a BBB A+, then $10.99/mo.
The trap with cheap hosting is the renewal. Almost every intro price below jumps 2 to 14 times higher when your term ends, so the real question is what you’ll pay in year two or year five.

The cheapest web hosts, one by one
1. Namecheap Stellar: lowest price after renewal
On Namecheap’s page, Stellar is free for 30 days, then $2.28/mo on a yearly plan, $1.88/mo on a two-year plan, or $5.88/mo month to month (Namecheap). Since May 19, 2026, it renews at $55.88 a year or $102.88 for two years (Namecheap), the cheapest renewal in this list. It hosts 3 websites with 20 GB of SSD storage and advertises a 100% uptime guarantee.
- Backups: Namecheap says server data is backed up “once every 3-7 days depending on the account type” and that you should keep your own copies (Namecheap).
- Refunds: 30 days, but “only first-time hosting accounts are eligible” (Namecheap).
- Reputation: BBB D-, citing failure to respond to 152 complaints (BBB). HostingStep measured 99.98% uptime and a 462 ms response time from October to December 2025 (HostingStep).
2. InterServer: cheapest without a long contract
InterServer charges $2.50 for the first month, then $7 a month, and lists the same math for prepaid terms: “12 months $30, then $84 renewal” (InterServer). You can pay month to month, storage and email accounts are unlimited, and weekly backups are included. A domain is extra: “$7.99 with the purchase of any web hosting package.”
- No uptime promise: its terms of service say “Interserver makes no warranties of any kind” (InterServer terms). Even so, HostingStep measured 99.99% uptime and 462 ms from October to December 2025, among the best here (HostingStep).
- Refunds: 30 days from sign-up; after that, you forfeit what you paid (InterServer terms). BBB: A+ (BBB).
3. Hostinger: cheapest for WordPress (we use it)
Hostinger Premium is $2.49/mo, but you pay all 48 months upfront ($119.52), and it renews at $10.99/mo (Hostinger). We’d spend the extra dollar a month on Unlimited ($3.49/mo intro, $16.99/mo renewal) for daily backups and unlimited sites, which is the plan this website runs on. Setup was easy for us, but there’s no phone support (Hostinger). More in our Hostinger review and Hostinger vs Bluehost comparison.

4. IONOS: cheapest first year, but read the refund rules
IONOS Web Hosting Plus is $1/mo for a 1-year term, then $14/mo; Essential is $4/mo, then $8/mo (IONOS). Both include unlimited websites, a free domain for a year, daily backups, a 99.99% uptime guarantee and 24/7 phone support. The catch: IONOS’s 30-day guarantee is “limited to the refund of certain setup fees and the monthly fee for the first billing cycle” (IONOS). BBB: A-, with 508 complaints in 3 years, billing issues being the largest category (BBB). Full details in our IONOS review.
5. DreamHost: best reputation on a budget
DreamHost’s Web Hosting Launch is $2.89/mo for the first year, then $10.99/mo (DreamHost), with 25 websites, daily backups and a free domain for a year on annual plans (DreamHost pricing). Email is only a 3-month trial, and support is chat and email. Its terms offer a 30-day refund on hosting and a 100% uptime guarantee with credits (DreamHost terms). BBB: A+, 28 complaints in 3 years (BBB).
6. HostGator, Bluehost and GoDaddy: cheap to start, not to keep
- HostGator Hatchling: $3.75/mo on a 36-month term, renewing at $10.99/mo (HostGator); month to month it’s $17.59 (HostGator). Cancel in year one and you pay a “non-refundable $17.99 USD domain fee.” BBB: F (BBB). It had the lowest uptime (99.91%) and slowest response (580 ms) in HostingStep’s 2025 data (HostingStep).
- Bluehost Starter: $3.99/mo on 36 months, renewing at $9.99/mo (Bluehost). HostGator and Bluehost share a parent company, Newfold Digital, which the BBB rates F (BBB). Details in our Hostinger vs Bluehost comparison.
- GoDaddy Economy: $5.99/mo on a 3-year term ($215.64), renewing at about $15.32/mo, with SSL listed as renewing at $119.99 a year (GoDaddy). The most expensive option here after the intro term. Full matchup in our GoDaddy vs Hostinger comparison.
Cheapest WordPress hosting
Every host above installs WordPress. For a WordPress site, backups matter more than a dollar a month: plugins and updates can break things. The cheapest plans with daily backups in our list are IONOS Essential ($4/mo, then $8), DreamHost ($2.89/mo, then $10.99) and Hostinger Unlimited ($3.49/mo, then $16.99). Namecheap’s backups aren’t guaranteed, so if you choose it, add a backup plugin.
Cheapest web hosting with a free domain
A free domain is free for the first year only, then you pay the normal renewal. IONOS, Hostinger, DreamHost (annual plans), HostGator and Bluehost include one. InterServer charges $7.99. Watch the refund rules: HostGator charges a $17.99 domain fee if you cancel in year one, and Bluehost deducts a domain fee from refunds.
How to avoid paying too much
- Compare renewal prices, not intro prices. A $1 first year that renews at $14/mo costs more by year three than a $2.50 plan that renews at $7.
- Longer terms lock the intro price longer but cost more upfront and are harder to get refunded after 30 days.
- Turn off auto-renew if you’re unsure, and set a calendar reminder a month before your term ends to compare prices.
- Don’t pay for add-ons at checkout unless you need them; email and backups are often trials that become monthly charges.
Hosts we left out
We also looked at HostPapa and Hosting.com (formerly A2 Hosting), but we couldn’t confirm their current prices on their own websites, so we didn’t rank them.
