    Quick verdict

A retractable hose reel mounts on your wall and winds the hose back in by itself, so no more dragging and coiling. Giraffe Tools makes one of the best-reviewed: Bob Vila’s tested roundup (April 2026) named the Giraffe 130ft 1/2in reel its Best Overall with top marks in every category, and Giraffe also won that roundup’s medium-yard and large-yard picks. At $135.99 (100ft) to about $162 (130ft), it costs far less than the Hoselink Classic ($259) or Flexzilla Pro ($349.99).

The honest part: Giraffe’s own FAQ says the main hose inside the reel “can’t” be replaced, only the short 6ft leader hose. So if the long hose gets cut or starts leaking after the 2-year warranty, you may be buying a whole new reel. The BBB rates Giraffe Tools F and says the company failed to respond to all 32 complaints listed, and you pay return shipping.

Our take: the best-value retractable reel you can buy, as long as you register it, keep your receipt, and accept that it’s closer to a 2- to 4-year appliance than a lifetime one.

Which Giraffe hose reel should you buy?

    ModelPrice (2026-10-31)Best for
100ft, 1/2in$135.99Most yards; the cheapest retractable reel we checked
    130ft, 1/2in$161.99 to $186.19 (color, bracket)Bob Vila’s Best Overall; bigger yards
    90ft, 5/8insee Giraffe’s siteMore water flow; Bob Vila’s medium-yard pick
    155ft, 1/2insee Giraffe’s siteLarge properties; Bob Vila’s large-yard pick

Prices from giraffetools.com on October 31, 2026. A 1/2-inch hose is lighter and fine for watering; 5/8-inch moves more water for sprinklers and washing. Measure from the wall to the farthest spot you need to reach, then add a little: a reel that’s too short is the most common regret.

    What reviewers found

    • Bob Vila (tested roundup, April 16, 2026): named the Giraffe 130ft 1/2in Best Overall and scored it 5 out of 5 in every category; Giraffe also took the medium-yard (90ft) and large-yard (155ft) picks.
    • Owners on Trustpilot: 4.2 from 364 reviews, but 19% are one-star, mostly about unreachable support (“only AI”) and pressure washers failing around 1 to 2 years. Giraffe doesn’t reply to negative reviews there.
    • Awards on Giraffe’s site: Giraffe’s blog claims a Popular Mechanics “Best Overall”; we couldn’t verify that on Popular Mechanics’ site.

The catch: you can’t replace the hose

Giraffe’s FAQ is clear that the short leader hose can be swapped but “the long hose can’t.” A May 2026 BBB complaint describes exactly this: a damaged hose meant the whole reel was useless. Protect it by keeping the reel out of direct afternoon sun if you can, not yanking it around sharp corners, and draining it before freezing weather. Register your reel and keep proof of purchase: warranty claims require photos or video and troubleshooting with Giraffe’s team first.

    Warranty, returns and shipping

    • Warranty: 24 months for residential use. Wear parts such as leader hoses, spray guns, nozzles and pressure-washer hoses get only 120 days. Units bought from some third-party marketplaces are excluded, so buy direct. Giraffe’s free GT Care add-on adds 30 days and one accidental-damage repair or replacement.
    • Returns: you pay return shipping (Giraffe’s checkout policy also says original shipping isn’t refunded), and a restocking or “usage” fee may apply to used items. The amount isn’t stated.
    • Shipping: free in the lower 48 from US warehouses in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Giraffe isn’t responsible for lost or stolen packages unless you buy its optional shipping protection.

    Company and safety

Giraffe Tools Corp is listed by the BBB in Rowland Heights, California; it’s rated F and not accredited. Its founding date is inconsistent (a 2025 press release says 2004, the BBB says 2018), and its site terms are governed by UK law. We found no CPSC recalls for Giraffe products and no lawsuits or FTC actions.

Giraffe vs Hoselink, Flexzilla and Eley

    ReelPriceNotes
Giraffe 100ft 1/2in$135.99Bob Vila Best Overall line; hose not replaceable
    Hoselink Classic 100ft$259Premium retractable reel
Flexzilla Pro (70ft)$349.99Shorter hose, premium brand
Eley wall-mount reelsee Eley’s siteManual crank, built to last decades

If you want the lowest price for a self-retracting reel, Giraffe is hard to beat. If you’d rather buy once for decades and don’t mind cranking, a heavy manual reel like Eley’s is the long-life alternative.

    Giraffe Grandfalls pressure washers

Giraffe also sells retractable-hose pressure washers. The Grandfalls Pro ($629.99) lists 3,700 PSI max, a replaceable 100ft hose, 78 to 80 dB and a GFCI cord; the Plus is $379.99 and the G20 $242.99. Owner reviews mention some units failing around 1 to 2 years, and the pressure-washer hose, gun and nozzles carry only the 120-day wear-part warranty.

Who should buy a Giraffe hose reel

    • Good fit: anyone tired of dragging and coiling a hose who wants the best-reviewed retractable reel at the lowest price.
    • Skip it if: you want a reel you can repair for decades, or dealing with a company that rarely answers complaints is a deal-breaker.

    FAQ

Is the Giraffe hose reel any good?

Yes for performance and price: Bob Vila’s tested roundup (April 2026) named the Giraffe 130ft 1/2in reel Best Overall. The catches are that the main hose can’t be replaced and the company has a BBB F rating for not responding to complaints.

Can you replace the hose on a Giraffe hose reel?

Only the 6ft leader hose. Giraffe’s own FAQ says the long hose inside the reel can’t be replaced, so a damaged main hose can mean replacing the whole reel.

How much does a Giraffe hose reel cost?

On October 31, 2026, the 100ft 1/2in reel was $135.99 and the 130ft 1/2in was $161.99 to $186.19 depending on color and bracket, with free shipping in the lower 48.

What is the warranty on Giraffe Tools hose reels?

24 months for residential use, with photo or video proof required for claims. Wear parts like leader hoses, spray guns and nozzles are covered for 120 days and units from some third-party marketplaces are excluded.

What size retractable hose reel do I need?

Measure from where the reel will mount to the farthest point you need to water, then add some slack. 100ft suits most yards; 130ft to 155ft is for larger properties. Choose 5/8in for more water flow.

Is a retractable hose reel worth it?

If you water often, yes: it rewinds the hose for you and keeps it off the ground. The tradeoff is that the spring and hose are harder to repair than a simple manual reel.

    Where is Giraffe Tools based?

The BBB lists Giraffe Tools Corp in Rowland Heights, California, and it ships from US warehouses in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Its site terms are governed by UK law.

Can I return a Giraffe hose reel?

Yes, but you pay return shipping, original shipping isn’t refunded according to its checkout policy, and a restocking or usage fee may apply to used items.
